Bantay Dagat nets 6 fishing boats in Carles anew

Six fishing boats from Patao, Bantayan Island, Cebu were apprehended by the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force for engaging in illegal fishing activities in the municipal waters of Carles, Iloilo on May 17, 2011.

The apprehended fishing boats were identified as: F/B Tessie 3 owned and operated by Ronie Mata with 15 crew; F/B Sharon owned and operated by Herminildo Mata with 14 crew; F/B Jun owned and operated by Alejandro Mata with 14 crew; F/B RL owned and operated by Ronie Mata with 14 crew; F/B Braya-3 owned and operated by Ramon Mata with Fifteen 15 crew; and F/B Grand Princess owned and operated by Saturnina Mata De la Cruz with 14 crew.

The said fishing boats were categorized as Danish seine locally known as “hulbot-hulbot”.

The owners and operators of the apprehended fishing boats paid a fine of P20,000 each as evidenced by official receipts issued by the municipal treasurer of Carles, Iloilo.

Earlier, National Burea of Investigation (NBI) operatives recovered 24 molotov explosives or dynamites abandoned by unidentified persons at the vicinity of Carles fish port.

Bantay Dagat supervisor Emmanuel Lobredo said the recovery dynamites proves that dynamite fishing exists in Carles town.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, who was tasked by Governor Arthur Defensor to lead the relentless campaign against illegal fishing in the province, stressed that there are no sacred cows in the provincial government’s anti-illegal fishing campaign. (ECGarcia/ Capitol News)
