NBI men recovers 24 dynamites in Carles port

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) explosives ordnance specialist Junifer Castante prepares to diffuse the 24 pieces molotov explosives or dynamites recovered at the vicinity of Carles fish port.

Personnel from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recovered 24 molotov explosives or dynamites abandoned by unidentified persons at the vicinity of Carles fish port early morning of May 18.

The abandoned dynamites, placed inside two plastic containers, were found by NBI operatives while clearing the perimeter of the fish port as back up force in a separate anti-illegal fishing operation in two island barangays spearheaded by NBI Bacolod City.

NBI explosives ordnance specialist Junifer Castante diffused the dynamites then turned it over to Philippine Army personnel for their disposition.

Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force Supervisor Emmanuel Lobredo Jr. said the recovery of the dynamites only proves that dynamite fishing exists in Carles town.

He said the fishermen may have abandoned the explosives after sensing the presence of authorities in the area.

To note, NBI has committed full support to the anti-illegal fishing campaign of Iloilo province during the Anti-Illegal Fishing Summit held in Dumangas, Iloilo early this year.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said yesterday’s operation in Carles town should serve as a stern warning to illegal fishers that there are no sacred cows in the provincial government’s anti-illegal fishing campaign.

“We mean business here,” he stressed.

Banias was tasked by Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. to lead the relentless campaign against illegal fishing activities in the entire province. (ECGarcia/ Capitol News)
